WELCOME to the Haslemere Angling Society website.
FOUNDED in 1936 we offer prestigious still water coarse fishing for members, catering for the angler seeking a quiet leisure day or competition fishing in all seasons, with opportunities to catch specimen fish at all waters.
What appeals to our members is being able to comfortably fish favourite un-crowded waters in and around the Surrey Hills, with plenty of vacant swims to choose from on any day of the week. Quality of fishing and environment more than compare favourably with other local alternatives, and less crowded. Water stocks include Roach, Rudd, Carp, Tench, Perch, Bream, Pike and Eels.
The Society’s jewel in the crown is the 30 acre Shillinglee Park Mill holding a variety of species. Apart from its superbly isolated location under Blackdown Hill, it is a designated SSSI with rare plants and an abundance of bird & wild life, hence we encourage members to assist us in conserving, maintaining and encouraging professional stewardship of the environment.
The Society committee are very conscious of the need to carefully control membership numbers whilst maintaining an adequate level of income to fund maintenance and improvement programmes, and contribute towards future additional water acquisitions. Prospective new members need to apply for membership and will be subject to careful vetting - there are currently no vacancies for new Carp anglers.
WE do NOT allow day tickets on our waters. However members can take a guest on a limited number of occasions provided they have paid for a guest ticket in advance, available from the outlets published in the handbook and within this website. Our Bailiffs will closely monitor such tickets and at least once during the season request sight of membership cards, carp night tickets (where appropriate) and EA rod licences, whilst also checking tackle and conformity with club rules and byelaws as outlined in membership booklets (to be carried at all times).
NIGHT FISHING is currently permitted at three waters but at Shillinglee EXCLUDES CARP FISHING for which a ‘carp night ticket’ must be applied for. Currently no applications are being accepted as the list is full – members may apply and if accepted join a waiting list.
With the exception of Imbhams and Lythe Hill, the Society has historically observed the statutory CLOSE SEASON as this provides an ideal opportunity for waters to recover during the very important spawning months, allowing essential maintenance and improvements to be carried out, although as an experiment relaxation of this rule is being permitted....see 'latest news'. Many members voluntarily participate in regular work parties during this time – details of which will be updated on the website.
THIS SITE has been designed for use by both existing and potential new members. Selected committee members and other officers may be contacted via the contact page. Members are actively encouraged to report any issues or problems to relevant officials via this medium or at the water.
